John Ruskin was born in 1819 and died in 1900. He was one of the most respected and famous men of his time, who changed the way people viewed the world around them. He started life as a writer on art and nature but quickly became absorbed in a broader critique of the ills of society. Many of his prescriptions for a fairer society have come to pass, but much that he championed remains to be done.
